Efeca is pleased to announce the official launch of the Global Resource Initiative (GRI), marked by its inaugural Taskforce meeting on 18th July 2019 at RSA House in London.
Integral to the UK’s 25 Year Environment Plan, the GRI highlights the government’s commitment to reducing its global environmental impact through heightened sustainability and the advocacy of zero deforestation supply chains.
At its core, the GRI seeks to position the UK as a leader in supply chain sustainability. It aims to ensure that the UK’s global commodity supply chains operate sustainably, mitigating deforestation and other environmental harms, while fostering job creation, livelihoods, and investment in resilient and sustainable food systems.
The GRI Taskforce brings together influential leaders from industry, finance, and civil society to propose bold and practical actions for the UK to adopt. These recommendations are aimed at significantly reducing the environmental footprint associated with commodity supply chains, emphasizing the importance of transparency, accountability, and sustainable practices throughout the supply chain.
Supported by Efeca’s Secretariat function, alongside representatives from DEFRA, DfID, and BEIS, the GRI Taskforce is committed to driving substantive change. It seeks to implement robust measures that promote sustainability, resilience, and environmental stewardship across global supply chains. By collaborating with key stakeholders, including commodity-producing nations, the GRI aims to foster international partnerships that enhance sustainable land use practices and mitigate the adverse impacts of global trade on natural ecosystems.
