With an expanding programme of work, we are looking for an enthusiastic graduate to come and work with us as a researcher.
Based in our Bournemouth office, the post will be on a full-time basis and involve participating and supporting a broad range of projects, proposals and business development.
We analyse, monitor and evaluate data, write lots of reports, conduct research, facilitate industry initiatives, present at industry and government meetings, carry out interviews, plus lots more. We are at the heart of exciting initiatives such as the UK Soy Manifesto, the UK Sustainable Commodities Initiative and the Dorset Sustainable Palm Oil Community. We put policy and market requirements into practice, supporting policy dialogue, monitoring impacts on trade patterns on complex, sensitive, confidential and often high-profile issues around deforestation-free agricultural commodities. Working in a small team, this role provides the right person with the opportunity to interact with clients, working at a level beyond that experienced in larger, less personable companies.
We are Efeca and Efeca Éire, a small, dynamic, natural resources company with our head office in Bournemouth. Providing specialised advice on responsible sourcing and sustainable trade and use within tropical forests and agricultural commodity supply chains including palm oil, soya, cocoa and timber, we have worked for well-known clients such as UK Government, The Bank of England, European Commission, research organisations (eg WRI, CIFOR), civil society (eg WWF) and a raft of retailers, food manufacturers and processors and food service companies.
We are B Corp certified, are a UK Living Wage employee, and are committed to Race to Zero. Additionally, we are a Tropical Forest Alliance partner, a World Economic Forum preferred supplier, and an Accountability Framework initiative coalition member.
You are a recent graduate, with a relevant UG degree and possibly a Master’s degree. You have excellent written and oral communication skills, are great at research and analysis and want to work for one of a few B Corps in Dorset. You are IT literate (Microsoft Office), fluent English is essential and good working knowledge of other languages an advantage. You are definitely willing to learn any skills you might require. You are enthusiastic, willing to work independently and also to get stuck in (did we mention you are a team player?) and want a job just 15 minutes’ walk away from the sea.
This is a full-time position (but if you want to do a little less, let’s chat). Full time for Efeca means 37.5 hours a week. However, we try not to work 9 – 5.30 on Friday. As a company, for full time workers, if you do your core 37.5 hours by 1pm Friday, you can have Friday afternoons off. We try not to have deadlines or client meetings on Fridays. So, start work earlier Monday to Thursdays, or finish work later (whatever works best for you) and then enjoy your Friday afternoons. Core hours are 9 – 5pm Monday to Thursday.
We would like you to regularly come to the Bournemouth office. For us, this means coming in for a few days every week.
You have 25 days holiday plus bank holidays (if you are FT).
We give you your birthday off because, well, it is your birthday.
We encourage ‘walk and talk’ internal meetings – get out and about in the fresh air. Looking after our mental wellbeing is so important, so we give our employees the opportunity to take wellbeing days (duvet days) if they need them.
You will have access to the industry-leading health and wellbeing platform, which helps you track wellness, improve mental health and has structured counselling available whenever needed.
All Efeca staff are allowed up to 30 hours of work time within each financial year to volunteer. You can decide what to do as long as it fits with Efeca’s values and ethics.
Each year, we all head down to the beach and spend a very happy afternoon cleaning the beach. We love it!
As a living wage employer, it goes without saying your salary will be above the real living wage. Your salary will depend a little on experience, but let’s talk details when we meet.
We contribute 5% of your salary to a pension each month for you. The company pension has an Ethical Fund option.
For this position, please send your CV and cover letter to Lucy Cullinane at info@efeca.com by 14th February with interviews being held shortly after. Candidates must be eligible to work in the UK. It is hoped the successful candidate will start in Bournemouth as soon as possible. A competitive salary will be offered appropriate to experience. Further information on Efeca please refer to our website: www.efeca.com. If you have any questions please email.
