Efeca recently collaborated with IPE Tripleline to assess the visibility of gender across the Sustainability and Resilience research portfolio for the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA).
Based in Stockholm, Efeca delivered a comprehensive half-day workshop titled “Why Gender Matters,” aimed at increasing awareness and implementation of gender mainstreaming within research projects. This session was complemented by individualised support provided to multiple research teams, focusing on evaluating the extent of gender integration throughout various project stages and levels.
The workshop and consultations identified several key areas where gender, poverty, and exclusion were found to be underrepresented or inadequately addressed. Practical recommendations were developed to address these gaps and enhance the effectiveness of integrating gender perspectives into ongoing and future research initiatives supported by SIDA.
Efeca’s approach emphasised the importance of incorporating gender considerations not as an isolated component, but as an integral part of the entire research lifecycle. This includes project inception, data collection, analysis, and dissemination of findings. By embedding gender into these stages, research outcomes are better equipped to address diverse societal needs and contribute to more inclusive and equitable development outcomes.
The collaboration with IPE Tripleline underscored Efeca’s commitment to advancing gender mainstreaming in environmental and climate research, aligning with global efforts to promote sustainable development and resilience. By supporting SIDA’s research portfolio in this manner, Efeca aims to foster a more holistic approach that considers the intersectionality of gender with environmental sustainability and resilience-building initiatives.
Looking ahead, Efeca continues to advocate for robust gender-responsive strategies in research and development programmes, advocating for comprehensive frameworks that not only acknowledge but actively address gender disparities and empower marginalised communities.
