Efeca has played a pivotal role in supporting the commitment by Unilever towards sustainable paper and board sourcing through a targeted capacity building initiative aimed at key suppliers. Focused on enhancing understanding and compliance with Unilever’s stringent sustainability standards, this project included the development and delivery of an intensive training course in Indonesia.
The training course covered several crucial aspects, including Unilever’s sustainability policies, SVLK (Sistem Verifikasi Legalitas Kayu or Timber Legality Verification System) requirements specific to Indonesia, and an introduction to forest certification systems and Chain of Custody certification requirements. These sessions were designed to equip suppliers with detailed knowledge and skills necessary to align their operations with Unilever’s Sustainable Paper and Board Sourcing Policy.
In addition to training, Efeca conducted comprehensive supplier gap assessments to identify areas needing improvement in sustainability practices and compliance with regulatory standards. Based on these assessments, tailored supplier action plans were developed, outlining specific steps and timelines for implementation. This approach ensured that suppliers had clear guidance on how to address gaps and enhance their sustainability performance.
Throughout the project, Efeca facilitated knowledge sharing and fostered linkages between Unilever, its suppliers, and relevant stakeholders in Indonesia’s paper and board industry. This collaborative approach not only strengthened supplier capabilities but also promoted a culture of continuous improvement and accountability in sustainable sourcing practices.
The outcomes of Efeca’s capacity building efforts have been impactful, enabling Unilever’s Indonesian suppliers to adopt best practices and achieve higher levels of compliance with sustainability requirements. By empowering suppliers with the necessary knowledge and resources, Efeca has supported Unilever in advancing its sustainability goals and contributing to the broader objective of responsible resource management.
Efeca remains committed to supporting organisations like Unilever in navigating complex sustainability challenges, promoting transparency, and driving positive environmental and social outcomes through effective capacity building and advisory services.
