Sustainable Soya Briefing Notes
As part of our programme of support to industry, funded by the UK Government’s Partnerships for Forests programme, Efeca has published briefing notes on soya sustainability standards. The briefings are designed to offer comprehensive information about the different soya sustainability standards that are available.
Vegetable oil report (published Sept 2022) – This briefing note explores the current situation of the vegetable oil market, looking at prices and production, and how these have been impacted by the Ukraine-Russia war, focusing specifically on exports and supply of sunflower and rapeseed oil. It also provides reflections on the role soybean oil may play in providing solutions to the current challenges within the vegetable oil market.
Certification Standards Briefing (2020 version – 2018 version also available) – a briefing on how different soya certification schemes address the issues of forest and native vegetation conversion (published October 2018 and April 2020)
Soya Certification Options – a briefing on how soya certification schemes engage with different chain of custody models (published April 2020)
Beginners guides to sourcing sustainable soya
In partnership with Proforest and the Soy Toolkit, Efeca has produced two beginners’ guides to sourcing sustainable soya.
The first is an introduction to sustainable soya: What is soya, and why should companies in the UK explore their soya supply chains?
The second is a step by step guide, taking the reader through assessing the volume of soya in the supply chain, writing and implementing a sustainable soya policy and monitoring progress.
