Monthly updates on DSPOC

Since November 2021, we have been sending out a monthly update to a ever-increasing mailing list.  The newsletters show our progress each month, highlighting new businesses and organisations that have signed up to the campaign, telling everyone about our Ambassadors who support and promote the initiative, and informing people about events we have attended and media publicity we have had.

March & April 2023 – our 6th business signed up in Bridport (Soulshine); we got a new Ambassador (AtoB); DSPOC was invited to Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots annual awards; DSPOC is chosen as Southern Sustainability Partnership’s cause for the 2023 Big Sustainability Expo; and Parliamentary Drop In for Sustainable Palm Oil Communities.

February 2023 – 2 new champions sign up including Dorset’s only green Michelin star restaurant (Terroir Tapas) and our 9th school, (Thorners Primary School); DSPOC has a stall at Thorncombe’s Eco-Fair; and a welcome to the 9th SPOC – Blackpool.

January 2023 – another champion pledges (Climate Essentials);  Joey’s Family Foods and Escoffier Restaurant at Bournemouth & Poole College become fully fledged champions; Sustainable Dorset become an Ambassador; Lucy talks about DSPOC at the inaugural ECOllective networking event.

November & December 2022 – SEA LIFE Weymouth sign up to DSPOC; both The Chatterboxes and St Osmund’s Middle School do everything plus more to become fully fledged champions;  the Bridport arm of DSPOC have a meet-up; we reach our target for 3 out of the 5 categories we need to complete to become the world’s first sustainable palm oil county.

October 2022 – 2 new champions sign up; continued media publicity reaching almost 60,000 people  about the ongoing impact of DSPOC; meet up of the SPO Communities at Chester Zoo; a musical on deforestation.

September 2022 – a press release about DSPOC and Dr Jane Goodall becoming an Ambassador; a meeting with the Bridport DSPOC strategy group; 2 more champions pledge; Arbor Restaurant and the Green House Hotel become fully fledged champions; another introduction to Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots programme; Great Big Green Week and being a finalist at the The Big Sustainability Awards 2022.

August 2022 – Dr Jane Goodall DBE, Founder of Jane Goodall Institute and UN Messenger of Peace becomes an Ambassador for DSPOC; we connect with Jane Goodall’s Institute’s Roots & Shoots programme (a global humanitarian and environmental programme empowering young people of all ages); 2 new businesses sign up; Dorset Food and Arts Festival; Arts University Bournemouth become a fully-fledged champion; and Palm Oil Scan app is launched.

July 2022 – 3 new businesses sign up to be SPO champions; articles about DSPOC are written in Ashley Cross Link magazine and the West Dorset magazine; DSPOC meets St Mary’s Catholic First School Eco-Committee and the Bridport Chamber of Commerce; and we host a webinar – an introduction to the world of sustainable palm oil, looking at sustainable palm oil supply chains and key issues.

June 2022 – Bridport Food Festival; Compass Group UK & Ireland sign up; 1 more Ambassador; St Mary’s Catholic First School celebrate Laudato Si Day; and Just1Swap become a fully-fledged champion.

May 2022 – Our new infographic shows impact of DSPOC; 2 more champions sign up this month, so we now have 28 champions and 11 ambassadors in 11 towns in Dorset and 6 villages; Bridport announces they are going to become a Sustainable Palm Oil Town; and Bournemouth University, Local Food Links, YMCA Bournemouth and Frome Valley First School becomes fully-fledged champions.

April 2022 – 3 fabulous new champions including our very first sports club; School food provider Forerunner, Cotton and Coconut and St Mary’s Catholic First School all complete the steps to become fully-fledged champions; and hosting a stall at Dorchester Earth Day.

March 2022 – 4 new sign-ups to become a champion; explanation of what exactly is sustainable palm oil; Stir! Events become an Ambassador; and we have lots of meetings & presentations including at the National One Health conference, Bridport Local Food Group, Green House Hotel, & Barclays Eagle Labs.

February 2022 – 4 new Ambassadors; 1 new sign-up to be a champion (Longs Fish and Chips); DorsetCAN (Climate Action Network) spread the word about DSPOC; and we have lots of meetings and presentations (including with The Chatterboxes, Dorset 2030, and the Environment Committee of Arts University Bournemouth).

January 2022 – All about our Ambassadors; our 7th school signs up; and we speak to the headteachers of the DASP (Dorchester Area Schools Partnership) First Schools.

December 2021 – Stay Original, YMCA Bournemouth, 4 new schools and the Green House Hotel in Bournemouth sign up;  Eco-Christmas Fair at St Osmunds Middle School;  Sustainable Dorset support the campaign; and we host a brown bag lunch with the Association of Sustainability Practitioners.

November 2021 – 3 new organisations sign up; Chester Zoo & the Sustainable Palm Oil Communities  initiative are on BBC’s Earthshot Prize; the Marshwood Vale magazine write a 3 page article on DSPOC; and DSPOC has a stall at Bournemouth University Student Union’s Green Day
