Maternity Leave Cover for Efeca Éire required

Who are we looking for?

With an ever expanding programme of work we are looking for a motivated experienced person to join our team for 12 months as a Consultant / Senior Consultant for maternity leave cover. Based in Ireland, working from home, with regular trips to our Bournemouth office in the UK, the post is flexible and can be on a part time or full-time basis and involve participating in a broad range of projects, proposals and client management.

What do we do?

We analyse, monitor and evaluate data, conduct research, facilitate industry roundtables, present at industry and government meetings, carry out interviews, plus lots more. We are at the heart of exciting initiatives such as the UK Soy Manifesto, the UK Sustainable Commodities Initiative and the Dorset Sustainable Palm Oil Community! We put policy and market requirements into practice, supporting policy dialogue, monitoring impacts on trade patterns often on complex, sensitive, confidential and often high-profile issues around deforestation-free agricultural commodities. Working in a small team, this role provides the right person with the opportunity to interact with clients, working at a level beyond that experienced in larger, less personable companies.

Our work can be varied. Just recently, two of the team were presenting in Dublin at Bord Bia (the Irish Food Board) on the EU Deforestation Regulation and market expectations on deforestation-free commodities centred on soy. Another was writing a proposal for an international client for an End of Term Review for a multi-year, multi-country programme on REDD+, whilst someone else was developing a strategy for our rebranding social media campaign. During the same week, other team members were working on various projects including the UK Soy Manifesto, the UK Sustainable Commodities Initiative, one around living income, and a project for a confidential client.

Who are we?

We are a small dynamic company with our main office based in Bournemouth, UK. Providing specialised advice on responsible sourcing and sustainable trade and use within tropical forests and agricultural commodity supply chains including palm oil, soy, cocoa and timber, we have worked for well-known clients such as UK Government, The Bank of England, European Commission, research organisations (eg WRI, CIFOR), civil society (eg WWF) and a raft of retailers.

We are B Corp certified, a UK Living Wage employee, and are committed to Race to Zero.  Additionally, we are a Tropical Forest Alliance partner, a World Economic Forum preferred supplier, and an Accountability Framework initiative coalition member.

Efeca Éire is the reasonably new Irish branch of our business, established in 2023. We currently have one team member based in Ireland who is working to develop the Irish side of our business while also working with the wider team to support and deliver some of the projects mentioned above.

Who are you?

You will preferably have expertise in:

For this position, we would like applicants with a Bachelor’s degree and preferably a Master degree, along with 4-5 years of experience. Must be IT literate (Microsoft Office), and definitely willing to learn any skills that you might require. Fluent English is essential and good working knowledge of other languages an advantage.

Ways of working

Flexible working

This is a part time or full-time position. Full time for Efeca means 37.5 hours a week.  However, we try not to work 9 – 5.30 on Friday. As a company, for full time workers, if you do your core 37.5 hours by 1pm Friday, you can have Friday afternoons off! We try not to have deadlines or client meetings on Fridays. So, start work earlier Monday to Thursdays, or finish work later (whatever works best for you) and then enjoy your Friday afternoons. Core hours are 9 – 5pm Monday to Thursday.

Bournemouth office days

We would like you to regularly come to the UK office (Bournemouth).  For us, this means coming for a few days every 2-3 months – we will discuss travel expenses when you start.

Annual leave

You have 25 days holiday plus 10 bank holidays.  Bank holiday dates are to be agreed – you can take the 10 Irish bank holidays or choose to take some of the UK ones instead. The bank holidays are agreed at the start of each financial year which for Efeca is April 1st.

Birthday leave

We give you your birthday off, because, well, it is your birthday.

Each year, we all head down to the beach and spend a very happy afternoon cleaning the beach.  We love it!

Salary

Your salary will be competitive based on experience. Let’s talk details when we meet.

Pensions with intentions

We contribute 5% of your salary to a pension each month for you. The UK company pension has an Ethical Fund option and we can explore similar options for any Irish pension.
